Last night Yate’s C Team arrived - via an unfortunate detour to Redcliffe Bay Hall - at The Old Mill to take on our C Team. So far this season inexperience in match play has led to results slipping away from us. This time, however, we were able to draw the match thanks to wins by Lana and Ibrahim. To say that both games we’re chaotic would be and understatement! Ibrahim played well until he allowed his queen to be skewered - and should’ve been that. Then his opponent castled illegally but neither player seemed to notice - so I haven’t been able to recreate the game from there. A glance at the scoresheet suggests that Ibrahim generated some play late on and in the chaos won the Queen back and with it the game. Lana picked up a piece early on - and that should’ve been the end of it. Unfortunately, instead of consolidating, Lana complicated and in trying to save a bishop, lost a rook. It didn’t look good until Lana’s opponent weakened his kingside giving Lana the opportunity to execute a mating attack. A nice finish!
