Match Round Up!

There were two matches this week. On Tuesday, our B team were up against a Horfield who out-graded us by 200-400 grading points on all boards. It would be a tough night but the team pulled together well. Brad managed a very creditable draw on board two while Al demonstrated how far he has come in a very short pace of time by playing a very fine and accurate game to draw with his higher rated opponent. So we lost the match 1-3 but all the signs are very promising for the future!

On Thursday, our A team travelled to South Bristol. On top board, Baptiste played with his typical controlled aggression and, despite his opponent's best attempts, the pressure was too much and Baptiste crashed through. A very nice game!

Tim had been elevated to Board Two and Andrew was in some pain after a visit to the dentist. Early on he was in some trouble, lacking space and activity. Then he decided to roll the dice and castle queenside where it looked like things could open fast. His opponent, however, coasted for a couple of moves which was enough for Tim to spring into action. Suddenly it wasn't clear who was doing better and Tim's opponent, perhaps unsettled by his change in fortunes allowed a neat combination - after which there was no way back. Another very fine game.

I haven't seen the other games but both Andrew and Oliver both won while Lana secured a draw. 4.5-1.5. The improvement is there to see!
