Forty of the best juniors in Somerset met today (Sunday, 15.12.24) at Redcliffe Bay Hall for the first of our Squad Training Sessions. The group were divided into 5 groups led by Sasha, Iain, Chris, George and SJ for a day of fun, interactive coaching. There were puzzles, master games, sessions on opening and middlegame strategy, tactics and endgames as well as Simultaneous Exhibitions and Blitz Tournaments.
All the children were in good spirits, applied themselves really well and learned a lot. This, and further Squad Sessions to be planned throughout 2025 should really build their enthusiasm, strength and appreciation of the game.Hopefully, most of the players who attended will be available and willing to help the Somerset in the various representative events in 2025.
The future is very bright!
