Wishing everyone a really happy festive break. Thanks for all your support and we'll be back on 5th January with loads to look forward to:
Our first ECF Rated Tournament - The Portishead Junior Rapidplay on 21st January.
The start of "Cafe Chess" in selected outlets around Portishead
Training for Chess Tutors and Junior Chess Tutor Assistants
A new Junior Team entering the Adult League
The most important thing, however, is to maintain and develop our relaxed, inclusive and social club nights. A place to meet with friends, meet new people and keep those little cells firing!
Some other stuff:
We are also waiting to hear from the ECF about our application to join the Junior Development Pathway which will ensure our ability to take the best of our young players as far as they want to go.
Many of our juniors will also be playing in the UK Chess Challenge both over-the-board and online. We afe also fully signed up to Chess in Schools and Communities and the great work that they are doing.
Most of our juniors are already in the Somerset Junior Squad and will have opportunities to play against other Counties.
We are already looking at organising future ECF Rated Tournaments - both for juniors and adults.
I'll slip this in sneakily here - just to see if anyone reads this. I have a place in Mallorca and have organised both chess and cycling holidays over here (not on a commercial basis, I organise, negotiate a good deal and pass it on). Chess is big in Mallorca. There are both major international tournaments with as many as 20 Grandmasters playing that are also open to the likes of you and me! There are also some fantastic junior chess clubs that we could play. What about a family holiday in Mallorca discovering parts of the island that few ever see?
Portishead Chess Club is the most active, vibrant and fast developing club I have known in 60 years playing chess - so get involved, and if you are involved please stay involved!
